Retaining audit information during migration to Laserfiche 8

Image annotation
The attachment annotation enables you to attach any file type to a document. The attachment icon differs depending on the native application of the file attached. For example, when attaching a Microsoft Word document, the following icon is displayed:

Once placed, you can launch the file in its native application; view its creator, creation date and the last modification date; view or change the file name; mark it as protected or private; or delete it.

Audit information from an existing repository will be retained after migration. By default, the Migration Utility for Laserfiche 8 will export all of the information stored in the audit tables of the source database. This audit information can be used to create reports using Laserfiche Web Audit tools, or it can be archived for future use. If you do not want to export the audit information at the time of the migration, it is possible to do it at a later time

The Laserfiche 8 Client offers many new  annotation types, including the image and attachment annotations. The image annotation enables you to place a .jpg, .bmp, or .gif image directly on a Laserfiche imaged document. Once placed, you can change its size; change its opacity; move it to a different location; rotate it; view its creator, creation date and last modification date; mark it as protected or private; or delete it. The difference between an image annotation and a stamp is that the image annotation can be in full color and is not stored for later use.

In the next few issues, we’ll continue to preview new features in Laserfiche 8, many of which you can see in the beta. Because this is a preview, note that the details and appearance of certain elements may change between now and the final release.

Throughout 2007, we’ve previewed a number of the features of Laserfiche 8, including annotations (freehand, callout text box), security (password generation, account inactivity, enhancements to Windows accounts), fields (independent fields), and scanning (thumbnail pane, image display enhancements). Other new features will include a new search interface and enhancements to the search engine, giving you more powerful retrieval capabilities.

Join us at the 2008 Laserfiche Institute Conference for overview and hands-on sessions with the new Laserfiche 8 products.

PlaceLynxfor ArcGIS connects the Laserfiche content repository to ArcGIS creating what we call spatially enabled documents. PlaceLynx also interconnects tabular databases, providing users integrated access to the information they need, wherever it resides. Whether in Laserfiche, GIS or a 3rd party database.

PlaceLynx™ brings the full power of GIS spatial processing to bear on the problem of document retrieval. Instead of browsing through folders for documents, or composing a query, a user can say, “I want these sorts of documents relevant to that thing there on the map.” He clicks in ArcMap or ArcIMS and the documents appear. Or he can say, “Find the geo-registered files in my current map area and display them on the GIS canvas.

Conversely, he can find documents in LaserFiche, and then find related map features, address locations, or route measurements on the map. This is a unique solution in the industry providing an integration bi-directionally between ArcGIS and Laserfiche.  For more info click here.
