Laserfiche Mobile for the iPad Coming in 2012 (1st Quarter)!!
Laserfiche Mobile for the iPad will be a light-weight application allowing full access to a Laserfiche repository. The iPad app will offer all the functionality of the iPhone/iPod Touch app, plus a greatly enhanced interface for interacting with both Laserfiche and electronic documents. Users will also be able to save their most frequently accessed documents into a favorites section where they can be easily accessed at any time. |

A Year of Excitement and Growth!
2011 has been met with excitement with Laserfiche upgrades from the 8.2 release earlier this year, to the most recent launch of Laserfiche 8.3. The new and extensive features in Laserfiche 8.3 include: Admin on-line, Workflow and Web Access enhancements, digital signatures, encrypted briefcases, and so much more! We anticipate that customers, who upgraded to AVANTE and RIO in 2011, will be developing new ways to enhance and improve their business processes. The AVANTE and RIO system allows current and future customers to purchase package-ready systems for paperless solutions at a cost-effective price. ECS is ready to assist each and everyone, through our trained and experienced tech staff and our experienced management. The ECS Imaging Team is available 5-days a week to provide information to our customers on the advancements made in Laserfiche 8.3 and how they can best be utilized to improve each customer’s particular needs.
In 2011, our technical representatives achieved over 50 CPP certificates for Laserfiche! Every week someone reminds us that our technical staff has become one of the brightest and smartest in the Laserfiche community. During this year we have also converted systems such as OTG, Filenet, Questys and other smaller systems into Laserfiche. ECS has a utility for converting from Questys which we wrote and have utilized it with much success over the years.
Some of ECS’s largest accomplishments in 2011 have been our work with the City of Pomona Human Resources joined the campaign in driving a city-wide usage of Laserfiche by adopting it within their department this year and upgrading the Legacy system to the Avante Laserfiche version. This will enable all departments to take advantage of the workflow component to streamline their business process. Another exemplary implementation of Laserfiche has been with Alameda County Behavioral Health who is expanding the installation of paperless solutions with Laserfiche and Lincware across 22 locations within their territories, and are digitizing millions of pages and documentation. The City of San Bernardino PD has served as one of the most complex feats undertaken by ECS Imaging this year. The Department has recently converted nearly 500GB of data from Filenet to a Laserfiche-accepted format and stored onto the Laserfiche server. Previously, the Department was utilizing an outdated “jukebox” optical disc to warehouse their information which has now been replaced by the Prostor InfiniVault system by Imation. ECS has utilized InfiniVault by Imation to provide WORM and archival capability to many of our customers. This product, in conjunction with Laserfiche, meets the full compliance for the State of California’s “Trusted Systems” requirements
The Technical Department has bolstered and strengthened its efforts significantly in order to render top tier technical support to our customers. The deployment of a high speed fiber optics internet line has boosted efficiency by allowing more multiple remote sessions, file transfers with customers, file transfers within the company, and other broadband related duties to occur simultaneously and fluidly.
Additional resources were allocated to building on the programming capabilities of ECS. Bich Pham was given a programming concentration to expand on ECS developed applications like Auto OCR and Auto Snapshot. Auto OCR and Auto Snapshot has been given added updates and further enhanced to include more functionality and to meet customer’s requests.
Within the Department, Jesse Martinez has transitioned to the role of managing the escalation process for support tickets as well as managing general support tasks including inquiries and ticket updates. This has improved support resolution times and customer follow-up tremendously. The Technical Department continues to grow at a steady rate in order to meet the needs of our ever-growing customer base. ECS continues to strive for efficiency and quality-leveled technical support. Our continued expansion into 2012 will only enhance our efforts to providing premium customer support. Our sales staff has proven that they know how to assist our customers to thrive.
During October, our most successful Annual Conference brought over 150 users to Riverside for classes on most of the disciplines required for Content Management and Laserfiche. It appears that all of the customers will be seeing us in the coming year for even bigger and greater things. The response from the customers was that the classes were great and the instructors had a keen understanding of their presenting topic.
2012 will be seen as a year of growth in the capabilities of Laserfiche. ECS looks to 2012 and our 300 + customers with anticipation and with readiness to help all who need and want to better their use of Laserfiche and consequentially improve the functionality of their cities, schools, companies, and districts. |

New Features For Thumbnails in Laserfiche 8.3 Laserfiche 8.3 introduces new features for document thumbnails that make your information more secure and your workers more efficient. Redactions Displayed on Thumbnails Redactions placed on an image page are now reflected on that page’s corresponding thumbnail in the Thumbnails Pane in the Laserfiche Client. This will further secure your sensitive information.
Background Thumbnail Generation By default, Laserfiche generates thumbnails for a document the first time that document is opened. The thumbnails are then cached and do not need to be re-generated every time the document is opened. However, in some situations, this may cause documents to load slowly when opened for the first time. If this happens, you can enable background thumbnail generation, which means all documents in the repository (both new and old) will have their thumbnails generated in the background, not just when the document is opened. This option can be configured in the Laserfiche Administration Console under Repository Options. For more information, see Background Thumbnail Generation in the Laserfiche Administration Guide.
Document Versions in Laserfiche 8.3 Laserfiche 8.3 features a significant expansion and enhancement of the Versions metadata element. Versions now track content and metadata changes as a history within a single document. You can review older versions, compare changes and revert to a prior version. You can also store version comments and labels and search for them to quickly locate specific modifications. When version control is enabled on a document, modifications of that document will be saved as new versions, with older versions of the document also retained in the document history. For example, if you open a document that is version controlled, change the value in a field and then save the changes, a new version would be created with the new field information. The same is true of other changes, such as modifications to pages, electronic files, annotations, templates, fields or digital signatures. This process happens automatically, ensuring that you do not need to worry about accidentally overwriting important information. A document’s prior versions are saved in the document’s version history. This allows you to retain and review older versions of a document, and revert to an older version if needed. In addition, you can compare the differences between two versions, displaying the elements of the document that have changed. (If the document is a Microsoft Word electronic document, you can even view the line-by-line modifications of the electronic file in Word.) You can also copy an old version and paste it as a new document, or export it to your desktop. Important: The feature known as versions in Laserfiche 8.2 and prior is now known as link groups. You will find your pre-Laserfiche 8.3 versions in the Links section of the metadata dialog. Versions in Laserfiche 8.3 and later are a new feature with expanded features and functionality. If you want to use the new versions feature to work with your pre-Laserfiche 8.3 versions, you can convert your link groups to versions. Laserfiche Workflow 8.3 Released In conjunction with the release of Laserfiche 8.3, we are pleased to announce the release of Workflow 8.3 in English, Arabic, French, Portuguese (Brazilian) and Spanish. This is a major release featuring product enhancements and more than 60 new built-in Workflow activities that simplify third-party integrations, offer easy customization and enhance administrative control. Workflow 8.3 will now install without a license when configured with a Laserfiche Avante or Rio Server, eliminating additional licensing or activation steps. Workflow 8.3 is compatible with Laserfiche 8.0 and up, with some activities requiring Laserfiche 8.3. Workflow 8.3 Enhancements Include:
