Using Check In/Check Out with Web Access 7.2 Laserfiche Web Access 7.2 includes support for Check In/Check Out, an electronic document management feature that allows users to check out and modify an electronic document. This allows users who work with your Laserfiche repository remotely via Web Access to lock documents they wish to modify, work with them outside of Laserfiche, and check them in to make the changes available in the repository.
To check out a document in Web Access 7.2
3. In the Comments option, type any comments you wish to make about the check out. Check out comments is optional.
To work with a checked out document Checking out an electronic document in Web Access will save a copy of that document on your local hard drive. When you want to make changes to the document, simply open your local copy of the document and make whatever changes you want. Until you are done with the document, save the changes locally; when you are finished with the document, you can check it in to apply the changes to the repository.
To check in a document in Web
Access 7.2
4. Choose whether you want to Save as a new version of the document, Save as a new document, or Overwrite the existing document. If you save the document as a new version, the check out comments will become the default version comments. 5. Optionally, type or browse to another destination folder under Save the new document to this folder. By default, this will contain the path to the folder containing the original document. 6. Click Check In.
Performing image enhancements for basic scanning and OCR options You can use Image Enhancements to clean up images, either during the scanning process or when OCRing documents already contained in the repository. Image enhancements allow you to enhance your scanned images to make them clearer and produce better text.
Although the same options are available in Basic Scanning and OCR Options, they are applied in slightly different ways. In Basic Scanning, image enhancements permanently change the image (with the exception of Line Removal; see below for more information). In OCR Options, image enhancements do not permanently change the image; instead, they are applied only for purposes of OCR.
The image enhancements dialog in Basic Scanning. The OCR Options dialog provides similar options.
To configure image enhancements in Basic Scanning, click the Enhancements button, or select Enhancements from the Tools menu. To configure image enhancements for OCR, open the Tools menu and select Options. From the Options menu, select OCR and click the Configure button; this will affect documents when they are OCRed in the Laserfiche Client.
There are four image enhancements in Basic Scanning and OCR Options: Deskew: Straightens images that are slightly askew (for instance, pages that were not placed in the scanner exactly straight). Despeckle: Removes small spots and ‘noise’ from the image which might otherwise result in poor OCR results. You can specify the size, in pixels, of noise that will be removed. Rotate: Rotates the image, either by a set amount or automatically. · Automatically: With automatic rotation, Laserfiche will OCR the image at each possible orientation and set the image to the rotation that produces the most understandable text. Note that this process can considerably slow the scanning or OCRing process. · By this amount: This rotation type rotates all pages by the specified number of degrees clockwise. Line removal: Removes lines from the image. In Basic Scanning, you can choose to either remove the lines only for OCR purposes – in which case they will be visible on the document in the repository – or permanently. In OCR Options, line removal will always be temporary. You can also specify whether horizontal or vertical lines (or both) should be removed.
Changing the default width of images in WebLink 7.0.5 In WebLink 7.0.5 Laserfiche documents open with their
width equal to the width of the toolbar by default. You can change the
width to which document images open by editing the properties of
DocView.aspx. Note: If you select the wrong part of
the page, you can select TheImageDisplay from the list at the top of the Properties
dialog. The default value, 611 pixels, is the width of the toolbar. The image will now be displayed at the new width to all
users of your WebLink Web site.
Trustee management: implementing a password change policy Laserfiche
7.2 introduces a number of new trustee management
capabilities. These features allow administrators to more closely
configure and control the security of their repositories. Among the new
trustee management features is the ability to set a password change
policy. In Laserfiche 7.2, you can require regular password changes and
prevent users from re-using passwords. These options decrease the
chance that a password will be guessed by someone besides the user, and
minimize the damage that can be done if a password is compromised.
Navigate within documents in the document viewer This allows you to work with different parts of a document quickly and efficiently. This can be particularly helpful if you frequently work with long documents.
Moving One Page Forward or Backward
There are four ways to move forward or backward by one page in the document viewer; you can choose the one that works best with your own process. You can click the thumbnail for the next page in the Thumbnails pane. You can select Previous Page or Next Page in the View menu. You can use the keyboard shortcut CTRL+PgUp to move backward a page or CTRL+PgDn to move forward a page. Or you can click the Previous Page or Next Page button.
Moving to a Specific Page
If you know which page you want to go to – for instance, you remember that you need to look at a diagram on the fifth page of a document – you can jump directly to that page using the Go To Page dialog. You can launch this dialog by selecting Go To Page from the View menu, by using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+G, or by clicking the Go To Page button. Then simply type the page you wish to jump to in the dialog box and click OK.
Jumping to the Beginning or End of a Document
If you want to skip straight to the end of a document, or return to the beginning, you can do so by clicking the First Page or Last Page button.
