From Everyone here at ECS we wish you Happy Holidays and New Year!
Laserfiche 4th Quarter Specials for ECS Customers!
Laserfiche introduces OneTouch link from Visionner Scanners On all Visioneer and Xerox branded scanners there are One-Touch buttons that are configurable. Well now this OneTouch link to Laserfiche is providing all the configuration and programming done for you. This will enable you to put the paper in the scanner and literally just push one button on the scanner. The button will activate the scan process through Kofax VRS and know where to file it in Laserfiche.
Onetouch has Kofax VRS built in. It works on any Xerox or Visioneer Laserfiche client. You can create profiles with different configuration setups and can go to different Laserfiche repositories. You can also set up as many profiles as you like. More info to come as this product is in beta currently, but will be available soon. If anyone would like to test out the beta, please contact your ECS Account Manager. |

Laserfiche New Pricing in 2008 Laserfiche has maintained the existing pricing since the release of version 6 many years ago. And the only items that will be increasing are the full user, retrieval users and base SQL system. All other modules are staying the same price.
The price increase will show on next years 08-09 Annual Updates (LSAP) and any new licenses purchased.
As part of a new pricing structure, Laserfiche is introducing new types of full-featured and retrieval-only licenses: The new full-featured license (Fx) will include both Snapshot and the E-mail Plug-in. The new retrieval-only license (Rx) will include the E-mail Plug-in.
Including Snapshot and Email for a full user license will be advantageous and less expensive then buying separately. It will come out to $80 less for each license. This also ensures that clients don’t end up with licenses that have different features.

Version 8 New Features In the next few issues, we’ll continue to preview new features in Laserfiche 8, many of which you can see in the beta. Because this is a preview, note that the details and appearance of certain elements may change between now and the final release. Using Windows® Accounts in Laserfiche 8™ Like Laserfiche 7, Laserfiche 8 enables you to add Windows® domain account users and groups directly to your repository, so that they can log in using Windows Authentication rather than needing to type a username and password. Laserfiche 8 introduces the ability to treat these domain users and groups like any other user in Laserfiche. Thus, administrators can grant security rights—feature rights, access rights, privileges and tags—directly to these domain users and groups, configure auditing for them, and otherwise treat them exactly the same as Laserfiche trustees. This ability simplifies user and group administration and maintenance. It is not necessary for an administrator to create new users manually; if a Windows account for a new user has been created on the domain, that user can simply be added to Laserfiche and administered normally, without needing to tie them to Windows trustees. If a user leaves the organization, the administrator can simply remove their Windows account; the corresponding Windows account in Laserfiche will also be removed. Furthermore, this ability allows users to authenticate directly to Laserfiche based on their Windows username; they do not need to remember an additional username and password for the repository.
Snapshot to archive old PDF records Customers using Snapshot to archive old PDF records. Due to file size; wish to store these as black and white images, rather than color, which they were originally. They don’t mind losing color, but they are also losing images—color pictures are coming across as solid black boxes. In Version 8 you will be able to see a B&W version of the image, instead of a black box. Snapshot can be configured such that color images will be converted into black and white pictures, with much of the detail still visible. This is done by configuring the Snapshot printer settings to use "photo quality." From the Snapshot Configuration utility, you can click on the Settings button to adjust how the printer behaves. Under the "File Formats" tab, you will see a box for "Photo Quality", which has a number of options—the default is "Disable photo quality." To turn this on, select one of the options; for conversion of color to black and white, the two we have found success with are Floyd-Steinberg and Jarvis-Judice-Ninke. You will want to test some of your customer’s documents in order to determine which method works best for a given situation.
Note that this menu is also accessible from the application you wish to print from. After selecting Laserfiche Snapshot 7 as your printer, you can select Properties to bring up this dialog. Additionally, if Snapshot is your default printer, then you can save these settings, and you will not have to configure them each time you have to print. However, Windows only allows the printer options to be saved for the default printer. Now, when a color image is printed into Laserfiche, it will be visible as a black & white copy of the original, rather than just a black box, as you can see from the screenshots of James Every below:
Web Auditing in Laserfiche 8™ Audit Trail 8 introduces a new Web-based audit reader. This Web reader enables you to configure and create audit reports, view them in your Web browser, save report configurations to run in the future, and export reports as a comma-separated list for archiving. This Web interface provides a way to easily create and read audit reports. Furthermore, it's no longer necessary to have an Administration Console available to view an audit report. Audit Trail 8 also reduces the performance load that auditing previously placed on the server. The new audit method stores audit data in binary logs. Because audit data is no longer stored in the repository database tables, the audit report process no longer needs to query the Laserfiche repository to generate the report. Furthermore, the repository database size will grow more slowly. Finally, because the Web reader does not need to be installed on the same computer as the Laserfiche Server, audit reporting can be distributed to another server to reduce load. In Laserfiche 8, you can create and constrain audit reports just as you would have in Laserfiche 7. You can select the events you would like to report on or limit the report to a particular timeframe or set of users. You can also create advanced constraints; for instance, you can create different reports for different Laserfiche products (for instance, the Laserfiche Client or Web Access™), or to report on a particular error. When the audit report has been created, the user creating the report can preview the report, reorder and resize the displayed columns, and determine how many items should be displayed per page.
WebLink™ Customers want to use WebLink™ to provide public access to documents. T hey have a user account configured with the appropriate viewing rights for the repository, but don’t want public users to be prompted for login information. Using the WebLink Administrator’s Utility, you can configure WebLink to connect to a repository automatically. From the Administrator’s Utility, you can specify a default user and password for that repository. Open the WebLink Administrator’s Utility:
Here, you can edit the current repository connection or add a new one:
Be sure that the appropriate information is entered in the User and Password fields. Then a user will be automatically logged in to the WebLink interface with that public account. Allowing automatic password authentication is convenient, but for security purposes, it is important to ensure that the user account that logs in has been configured to only have access to the correct folders and documents. This is done by setting up security rights with the Laserfiche Administration Console, or by setting access rights to folders and documents with the Laserfiche Client. |
