The engineering department at Fontana City Hall gained an entire room of space once filled with paper documents, thanks to the city's $100,000 investment in an electronic document imaging and storage system called Laserfiche. The city installed the system in 1993.

Once a month, 30 to 35 compact disks are loaded with documents that fill 35 to 50 boxes, Jan McClintock, manager of Fontana information systems said. Once the information on disk is verified, the hard copy documents are destroyed.

All that paper took up room. “We've been able to regain a lot of physical space,” she said.

Fontana is among more than two dozen Inland Empire cities, school districts and other organizations that have purchased Laserfiche software products through ECS Imaging Inc. in Riverside.

ECS's Inland Empire clients are among the more than 120 of its customers who have opted for the Laserfiche suite of software and the hardware systems.
